Get your mind dreaming of more positive experiences like vacation-planning, exploring a new area, a new idea, a new experience. Plan for fun.

Amid the recent news of the spread of Coronavirus, we know this can be a startling and uncertain time. As we listen/read/watch the reports we can feel fearful and unsure of what to do. If you’re struggling or anxious in any way, please know we’re here to help. In addition, here are some quick tips to de-stress:

  • Limit your exposure to news and media sources and try to keep your check-ins to once daily. Whether you get your news in the morning or the evening, or somewhere in between, hearing about this virus continually can increase your feelings of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty. While these are unprecedented times and preparation is responsible and healthy, we also risk information overload and anxiety loves to grow.

  • When you are looking for information about the Coronavirus, use credible sources to do so.

  • Keep your body moving. Walking, running, any form of physical exercise increase endorphins, one of the chemicals in your brain responsible for feeling happy. Plus, physical movement such as yoga or pilates can be incredibly relaxing and therapeutic.

  • Journal. Write down what your fears are about this virus. Then write about a situation in your life in the past that’s been uncertain and scary and how you managed to get through it.

  • Get creative. Creativity also increases our levels of happiness and you can be creative in a number of ways. Art journaling, drawing, painting, writing, cooking, re-decorating, vision boards, any number of things. Make something with your hands.

  • Plan for something fun in the future. While we’re caught in a time right now things feel uncertain, it hasn’t always nor will always be this way. Get your mind dreaming of more positive experiences like vacation-planning, exploring a new area, a new idea, a new experience. Plan for fun.

  • Laugh. Google or YouTube funny videos, watch a comedy movie, watch a comedian.

  • Talk about other things aside from the Coronavirus.

  • Talk to your therapist about what you’re feeling.
